Group Fitness Instructor

Develop and lead cardiovascular/strength/mind-body/Spinning fitness classes. Instructors must feel comfortable in front of a group and be able to teach proper form and alignment for movements and exercises dynamically.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD

August to May. Option of working during summer and breaks.

PAY RATE AND INCENTIVES

  • $15.00 per hour and up; based on experience. 
  • Free Membership to the Cornell Fitness Centers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Current American Red Cross CPR/AED, American Red Cross Standard First Aid, AFAA, ACE, ACSM, Spinning® or other related teaching certification, and an active e-mail account.

JOB DUTIES

     

    •    Arrive to class 10 minutes early with music cued, class planned, and dressed for teaching.
    •    Ensure safety of participants by recognizing general signs and symptoms of physical exertion.
    •    Teach a safe, effective and fun class to all participants.
    •    General knowledge of current exercise recommendation principles.
    •    Ensure safety of participants by reporting any facility problems.
    •    Fill out accident/incident reports when necessary.
    •    Answer questions regarding class format and other related exercise concerns.
    •    Stay for 10 minutes after class, to put away props and equipment, lock up closets and stereo, and be   available to participants.
    •    Responsible for appropriate use of all Group Fitness related equipment.
    •    Check for wristbands and record class attendance for each class.
    •    Mentorship of new instructors if applicable.
    •    Wear appropriate clothing that allows participants to see proper form and alignment.
    •    Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions.
    •    Check e-mail regularly.
